A myriad of entries have poured in for the highly coveted Sam Nda-Isaiah Essay Contest put up by the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students (PANS). And as the contest hots up, the association is gearing up to announce the winners of the hotly contested competition in due course. The association that came to life in 1972 is aimed at improving the quality of scholarship, as well as the welfare of students of Pharmacy nationwide.
All together about 47 entrants so far made it to the finals of this first edition of the contest which is designed for pharmacy students nationwide. At the moment the contestants are being closely adjudged by a jury that cuts across the academia, practitioners and media personnel.
According to the organisers, “the essay contest is expected to encourage the participation of Pharmacy students in the commentary of topical issues affecting Pharmacy education, Pharmacy practice and indeed the society at large.” And in the appreciation of one of the association’s foremost participants in the past, this competition is named after Pharm. Sam Nda-Isaiah. This is to fully recognise his “tremendous contributions towards the editorial of PANS, as one-time National Editor-In-Chief of the Association, and also his editorial societal contributions through the Leadership Group.”
